Well in an interesting turn of events, Dawn.com surprised me this morning. After my last post, I didn’t really have any hopes of change, but I was certainly greeted with a nice surprise.
The ultra-new Dawn.com does not suck (that much) anymore. The layout is clean, neat and better. Check it out!
So what could have prompted this change? I certainly hope that I had caught them off-guard with their previous layout and they were already working on better layout and design. They certainly have made the site look much better and kudos to them for taking the step.
I will do a much detailed review of what I like and what I don’t like of the new layout in coming days.

It’s good to see that they’re doing something to fix the awful mess. Aleem had highlighted a lot of basic issues last year but nothing much had changed. http://aleembawany.com/2008/08/28/dawn-com-barely-worth-the-effort/
I really hope they’re tracking blogs (like this one) to gain free, valuable feedback from guys like you and Aleem.
Yes I think they probably started working on fixing the issues after reading Aleem’s blog.
I had plenty of meetings with Dawn after that post and consulted them on major issues. I did outlined some high level strategies which they took to heart and it has been serving them well.
In the coming weeks I hope that with the launch of the Express Tribune website we can set a new precedent altogether for online news sites in Pakistan.
Came across your blog while writing a review of the Jang website and searching for my own earlier critique of Dawn’s site.
Thanks for the insight Aleem.
I hope that the new Express Tribune website, does set a positive trend but looking at the overall trend of websites coming out of Pakistan, it is hard to get my hopes up
