I have been meaning to write about this over the weekend but couldnt’ find the time.
So last week Jehan Ara introduced us to Mindstorm Studios on ITLOW. Babar seemed to know what he was talking about. A young, energetic and upcoming entrepreneur. While listening to him I was very excited to hear about the game and what they are doing.
I wanted to take a few minutes to give my feedback to Babar regarding the game and business stuff around it.
1. Where is the trailer? I could not even find a link to the trailer on Jehan Ara’s post, neither on Mindstorm studio website. I had to digg it up myself on Google and then found out that its called Cricket Revolution (unless they have changed the name)
2. Launching in 2 months? Where is the buzz? See the thing with game industry is that they need to create a hype, a culture, a mystery around the game. I think Mindstorm studio should be spending a lot of time in marketing the game. Just making the game isn’t enough, it you can’t reach the masses. My suggestion would be to get a website up and running and start talking to every single game website to showcase and review your game. You need this hype, you need to get infront of those who won’t spend a single second in searching for you. Why should they?
3. What about XBOX and PS3? As far as I can tell they are launching a PC only version right now. My advice to Babar would be, do whatever you can to get the game on PS3 or XBOX. DO NOT launch without that. You need to cater to that market and they will love you for it. (i know i would)
4. At least say the name of the game in the interview. I didn’t hear any during the whole interview. This interview (and my more like this) should be used as a marketing tool and you should maximize every single marketing channel.
I am excited to see that a Pakistani company is coming forward with a game. I wish them all the best and I hope to see many other titles coming out of this studio. I know how hard it is to make a game and I really do appreciate their efforts.
To start off your marketing, here is a trailer for Cricket Revolution that I found on youtube.

An interesting article on BBC today. They rated websites for all the Presidents in South Asia. And guess what? Our President’s website got 4 out of 10. Now I am not saying that Zardari should drop everything (well maybe he should?) and fix his website but come on. Look at the website. Seriously have you looked at the website?
This is what BBC had to say:
Slightly dated design and seemingly most of the site still under construction – clear navigation though on the left hand side. News section is kept fairly up-to-date. But again no visible method of contact through the site.
So I wanted to create a bit of a challenge to Pakistani web developers. Lets create a one-page mock of what you think the site should look like? No prize for the contest but I think it will be fun to see what our creative minds can come up with? So who is in?
BTW the screenshot is 1024px wide and that is an interesting view..
I don’t often talk about politics on my blog. I try to keep my distance from it, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about the upcoming fiasco in Pakistan. The long march.
Its coming, again. Seems like just yesterday when everyone had their arms up in the air about how undemocratic Musharaf was, how they wanted to bring back democracy in Pakistan. Well then we had an election and we ended up with Zardari.
Now lets remember, Zardari was elected “democratically” so he is the chosen one. Well sort of. I wont’ go into details about who Zardari really is. You can read all about him by googling his name.
So now what is this “long march” all about? Well good question. It is about take down a democratically elected dictator. Wow, never thought, I would be able to describe the situation with just three words.
As an average Pakistani, I am now sitting on the sideline thinking, where the hell is this going? On one hand we are facing one of the biggest challenges that our country has faced in recent decade — security, terrorism and on the other hand we are not even close to having a government that is actually doing something positive?
The opposition’s job is not to overthrow government, but to work with them to keep them in check and balance and the government’s job is not to overthrow the opposition party but to keep them in check and balance. That seems like an easy formula.
So what would be the outcome of this long march? There are three possibilities:
Zardari resigns and we elect someone else
Army kicks everyone’s butt and takes over until we learn our lesson
Zardari stays where he is and the opposition party tires itself out after screaming and yelling
