I don’t often talk about politics on my blog. I try to keep my distance from it, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about the upcoming fiasco in Pakistan. The long march.
Its coming, again. Seems like just yesterday when everyone had their arms up in the air about how undemocratic Musharaf was, how they wanted to bring back democracy in Pakistan. Well then we had an election and we ended up with Zardari.
Now lets remember, Zardari was elected “democratically” so he is the chosen one. Well sort of. I wont’ go into details about who Zardari really is. You can read all about him by googling his name.
So now what is this “long march” all about? Well good question. It is about take down a democratically elected dictator. Wow, never thought, I would be able to describe the situation with just three words.
As an average Pakistani, I am now sitting on the sideline thinking, where the hell is this going? On one hand we are facing one of the biggest challenges that our country has faced in recent decade — security, terrorism and on the other hand we are not even close to having a government that is actually doing something positive?
The opposition’s job is not to overthrow government, but to work with them to keep them in check and balance and the government’s job is not to overthrow the opposition party but to keep them in check and balance. That seems like an easy formula.
So what would be the outcome of this long march? There are three possibilities:
- Zardari resigns and we elect someone else
- Army kicks everyone’s butt and takes over until we learn our lesson
- Zardari stays where he is and the opposition party tires itself out after screaming and yelling
What do you think is going to happen?
